Nick Honstein Wiki

In 2017 Nick was invited by Eddie Bravo to compete in the inaugral "Combat-Jiu Jitsu" 4 Man Tournament as part of the "EBI 11" event, which was broadcasted live on UFC Fightpass.

In the opening round Nick Faced off again Sheridan Moran. After several scrambles, Moran's back was taken, he was then flattened out on his stomach and a rear-naked choke was applied by the "Quick" one.

In the tournament finals, he faced off against fellow MMA veteran and grappling standout Chad George. The contest was competitive, with each grappler alternating dominant positions while it lasted. Eventually while George moved in a transition, Honstein managed to work and cling to the back, controlling Chad's upper back and torso rotation while trapping the leg to lock in a "Twister" submission for the tap-out, and was crowned the 1st Combat-Jiu Jitsu Champion.

What makes the achievement so unbelievable is that Honstein managed to pull off Eddie Bravo's trademark submission move, a rare submission, also in Eddie Bravo's tournament, in possibly the most defining and important competitive fight of his life, be it MMA or grappling.

Prior to "EBI 11" Honstein admitted he was at the end of the road as a competitive athlete. With other responsibilities such as a wife and kids, Nick had to move on with his life as a provider and family man.

However, at the encouragment of his wife, he decided to go for 'one last hurrah', to close out his combat career. The gamble paid off, in a huge way. He also secured a qualifying place at the inaugral "Combat-Jiu Jitsu World Championship", which will involve some of the worlds most elite grapplers in the division. and has stated he hopes to defend his EBI belt in the future. Nick earned his purple belt in Brazilian-Jiu Jitsu under JJ Pugsley.

He represents 'Lincoln BJJ' in Lincoln, Nebraska under Greg Lawson. Honstein is currently helping to develop an MMA program for students at the academy..

Some of Nick's other achievments include :

Kickdown Feather Weight Amateur Title (defended 4 times)
Reigning Kickdown Featherweight Professional Champ
Rocky Mountain Bad Boyz Professional Bantamweight Champ
Tuffa Professional Featherweight Champion
Brace for War Professional Featherweight Champion

Three time Nebraska State Tournament competitor placing all three tournaments in Wrestling
All-conference wrestler four years in a row
